I have a reconditioned Whirpool gas dryer. The power is working but the drum will not spin. I would like to know the price range on repair, as I am not sure if it is worth putting much money into. Thanks.

My dryer does not work. It runs, but does not heat, and therefore does not dry the clothes. About how much would it generally cost to get this fixed? I am trying to decide whether to fix it, or to get a new machine.

Most refrigerator repairs tend to involve a leaky appliance, a refrigerator that doesn't cool properly, or doesn't cool at all, or a refrigerator that has stopped completely. There are a few basic steps you can take to get your appliance functioning properly again, but if these don't work, there is no other choice but to call in a professional refrigerator repair specialist. Any refrigerator repair manual is only meant to be used by persons who already have a working knowledge of the refrigerator, its components and functioning. Before attempting any troubleshooting or refrigerator repairs, make sure that the appliance is unplugged from the power source. A refrigerator that has stopped running could be the result of something as simple as a defective power source. Check if the appliance is getting enough power by plugging some other electrical device into the refrigerator's power outlet. If there is no problem with the power, confirm that the appliance is not running by checking if the light turns on or if there is any humming sound coming from the refrigerator. A refrigerator that has suddenly gone dead could be the result of a fault in the wiring, defrost timer, thermostat or compressor.
A refrigerator that cools inefficiently could be the result of a thick frost accumulation on the evaporator coil. Defrost the coils manually by turning off the thermostat, and leaving the doors open for about 48 hours. Once all the frost has melted away, you can set the thermostat back to normal again. If the refrigerator still doesn't cool properly, it could be because the condenser coils are covered with dust. To clean the condenser coils, turn the refrigerator off, and clean away any lint or dust by using a refrigerator condenser brush. In the case of a refrigerator that makes a lot of noise, the problem could be with the circulating fan that circulates air through the refrigerator compartments. Other sources of noise can be a compressor in which case, there are no compressor repairs that can be done to solve the problem, and replacement of the compressor may be your only option. Noise can also result from a defective defrost timer. Replace the timer, and you should be able to solve the problem.
Other common refrigerator repair problems are linked to leakage. A leaky refrigerator could be a sign that the fridge is not sealed properly. Check the gaskets of your refrigerator and freezer, and if you find a problem, wash these with soapy water and apply petroleum jelly. If your gaskets are still loose, they may have to be replaced. Leakage can also occur if the refrigerator is not placed on a level setting. Adjust the legs of your refrigerator to solve these problems. Ice makers can also sometimes leak when the water line gets disconnected, draining water into the freezer. If none of these tips help, call a refrigerator repair man to fix your refrigerator.
